MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
YESTERDAY'S SITTING. In the Now Plymouth Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.,'disposed of the following cases : s THEFT OP A DUCK. Walter Kendall ar.d George Henry Kcrriall eaine up for sentence on a . charge of stealing a 'tick, valued at ss, : the property of Isaac Goodwin, Fitzroy. The Magistrate said sentence had been ' deferred on tlie previous Court day so ' that he might have a report from the j police as to the character of the accused. • That in regard to the George Kendall ' showed that lie had in the main led a ■ decent life and he had to his credit also that he had served his country in the ■ war, had been wounded, and was now ' somewhat disabled. He would be con- ! vieted and discharged. The report on Walter Kendall was not so favorable ' and he would be ordered to come up for ' sentence if called upon within 18 months. ' The Magistrate advised accused to get '> to work as quickly as possible. Mr. C. H. Croker, who appeared for the accuseds, said the value of the duck (ss) had been paid into Court. He stated 'he had had a conversation with W. Kendall, who admitted drink was the cause of his getting into trouble, and suggested that a prohibition order should bii issued against him. The Magistrate accepted the suggestion and made an order. STRAYING CATTLE. The inspector for the County of Taranaki (Mr. B. Tippins), for whom Mr. Ronald H. Quilliam appeared, brought informations against a number of residents for breaches of the by-laws in regard to straying cattle, and convictions and fines were imposed as follows: Henry Muna (Egmont road), fined 10s (costs 10s).; Tutuai (Henwood road), fined 10s (costs £1 6s 6d); James Phelan (Mountain road), ordered to pay costs amounting to £1 (Is; John Copestake (Henwood road), ordered to pay costs amounting to £1 7s ffdBOROUGH BY-LAWS. For allowing a motor car to stand in Lemon street, New Plymouth, after ■ dark, without lights thereon, Mr. Truby King (Stratford) was convicted and ordered to pay costs (7s). JUVENILE CASE. A small boy appeared in the Juvenile . Court charged with the theft of a bo:. 1 I of confectionary, valued at £l, the property of Kate Hawse. The Magistrate j admonished and discharged the boy and ordered the father to pay the amount [ of damage involved.
