STRATFORD BY-ELECTION.

MR. HINE'S CAMPAIGN. The following has been supplied:— The stormy weather was again responsible for Mr. Hine being unable to give An address at Pohokura on Tuesday ] as t. This was his second attempt. The whole of the residents in the Tahunoroa district turned out to meet Mr. Hine on Wednesday afternoon, a number of ladies being present. He had a splendid reception, and outlined the policy of the Massey Government, stressing the fact that Mr. Massey is in sympathy with the needs of the pioneers,' and has initiated a progressive policy to meet with their requirements. Mr. C. Grant was voted to the chair. Mr. Callaghan moved, and Mr. W.' Bacon seconded, a vote of thanks and confidence, which was carried unanimously. The electors of Strathmore were fullv represented at Mr. Hine's meeting oil Wednesday evening. The speaker was accorded a good hearing, and gave an address on the lines of his Tahunaroa speech. There was a fine muster of returned soldiers, who were keenly interested in Mr. Hine's exposition of the Massey Government's policy in the direction of placing the soldiers on the land, with every facility at their disposal for successful farming. The candidate wa< accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the Massey Government. ME. MASTERS' CAMPAIGN. The following has been supplied: Every available seat, and all standing space was in demand at the York Road' School on Wednesday evening, when Mr. Masters addressed the electors on '"Politics and Petition." The speaker was greeted with outbursts of applause, and throughout the whole address was frequently compelled to stop, owing to the applause making it impossible for him to proceed. In dealing with the statement made by Mr. Hine that he (the speaker) had nothing -to do with the securing of the Stratford Technical School, a statement Mr. Hine had subsequently contradicted, the candidate tsaid the contradiction was not a matter of principle so much as it was policy. No doubt, said Mr. Masters, the Hon. J. A. Hanan's telegram (already published) was mainly responsible for' the forced contradiction. We have, added the speaker, all in one fortnight three Ministers of the Crown visiting Stratford. No doubt an event as far as the electorate is concerned, but do you consider this is in the district's interests—or to assist my opponent to win this seat? The whole thing is ridiculous and transparent to a child, lot alone an adult. At the conclusion of the speech, Mr. Potroz (returned soldier) moved, and Mr Uombroski (returned soldier) seconded: "That this meeting, representing a majority of the bona, fide settlers on York Road, congratulates Mr. Masters on the Election Court's decision that he was only guilty of a trivial offence, and expresses its confidence in his integrity nnd undoubted ability. On the | solution being put to the' meeting it was unanimously carried amidst cheers.
