Self Alliance broke a leg in the Hack Welter, and was destroyed Proceedings opened with the Apprentices' Plate, Sandy Mac Donald and Metronome being the only withdrawals, seven going to the post. A poor betting race saw the Hawora trained Island even money favorite Sea Foam and Castellan being the only others seriously Bupported. Gay Patron broke away ;ind galloped along the hack, but eventually the field was sent away smartly, hut in straggling order. Island was the first away, and Ir-d Castellan, Lord Desmond, nnd Sea Foam, with Gay Patron and Niutireul very badly left. Island led info thy straight from Sea Foam, vrSlh Castellan and Gay Patron-together several lengths back Sea Foam had Island's measure at the distance, and beat htm home comfortably. Castellan was a poor third Just in front of Gay Patron, who was not pushed.

Battle Song. Borealis, and Active were withdrawn from the Princo of Wales' Handicap. Kemball's bracketed pair, Bonnetter and Trespass, was better backed than Lingerie and Daytime Daytime delayed the start, but all went off in fair order. Dainty Step and Haversack led a bunched crowd past the stand, and along the back Dainty Step. Haversack, and Daytime were the most prominent. Dainty Step led into the straight and stayed on long enough to win from Marqueteur, who finished very fast. Bonnetter was a close third, and Detroit fourth.
