The supplementary roll for the Stratford by-election is at present in the printer's hands and will he ready about the end of the week. Nominations for a member of the New Plymouth Harbor Board representing the Stratford and Whangamomona counties eloped at noon to-day. As Mr. •I. McOlujtimpe. the sitting member, was the only candidate nominated, lie was declared duly elected. Advice lias heen received by the Mayor and the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce to the effect that the Hon. D. H- Guthrie, Minister of Lands, will arrive in Stratford to-morrow (Thursday) night and will leave for lngiewood early the following morning. Any settlers who wish to make representations to the Minister should have word, not later than ."> p.m. on Thursday, with the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr. W. Power). Mr. Monntjov, inspector for the Labor Department in connection with the housing question, was in Stratford today and conferred with Police Sergeant Dale, the local inspector, who will furnish persons interested with such information as they require. Mr. W. Kerr, late manager of the Union Bank of Australia at Huntsrville, has been appointed manager at Stratford, in succession to Mr. A- F. Grant, who is retiring from the bank's service. Mr. Grant has been manager of the Union Bank at Stratford for over ten years, and he now proposes to reside in New Plymouth for a time before "taking up farming. He is at present chairman of the Stratford Repatriation Committee.
During yesterday's deputation to tlie Hon. J. S. Coates, the Mayor stated tliat he had approached Mr. Coates with reference to the plans of the Stratford post office nnd the Victoria bridge, and the Minister had promised to wire to Wellington enquiring if the plans were ready. To-day the Mayor received n wire from Mr. Coates at Whangamomona stating that with reference to the post office, he was informed that the negotiations were, not yet completed. As soon as they were, the plans would be gone on with. ' Mr- 0. H. Fox's weekly assembly will he held in the Town Hall to-morrow (Thursday) night. Dancing will lie kept up from S p.m. till midnight to music supplied bv Fox's orchestra.
