INFLUENZA.
THE POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH. By T»)ecr;<ph—Press Association. Christchurcli,' Last Night. During the twenty-four hours ending at noon to-day, 114 fresh' 'ri6tiflcations of influenza cases were received by the Public Health Department;'Christchurcli, These notifications cover the whole Canterbury and Westland districts, and include fil cases in North Canterbury, 48 in South Canterbury, and five, in Ashburt'ori. All are mild. The tbtal number reported over the whole district for the preceding twenty-four 'hours was 137, so that if these figures can lie accepted as setting out the correct position the epidemic is not spreading at an alarming rate.
At the same time two more schools in the city were closed to-day. A great many eases of an exceedingly mild though infectious type are never reported to the authorities. TARANAKI CASES. During the w olc ended noon on Monday, the following cases of influenza were notified in Taranaki:--Taranaki, 15 mild. Stratford, 7 mild. Hawera, S mild. During the past week the following other infectious diseases were notified:— Scarlet Fever: Hawera 1. Diphtheria: Taranaki 1. Stratford 2.
