LAND FOR SOLDIERS.

RESULT OF GISBORNE BALLOT. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Gisborne. Last Night. A soldiers' ballot for the llepongaere Estate was hold to-day. There were 114 applications from various parts of the Dominion.

Mr. Marsh, Commissioner of Crown Lands, addressing the applicants, sata that on the Repongaere Estate there were three classes of land. Pour sections were essential sheep country, two were adaptable to mixed farming, and the remainder were suitable for close settlement. A coincidence occurred during the drawing, two brothers from Waimate each securing a section. Following are the results of the ballot:—

Section 1 (50 applicants), 53 acres. L. i. Biui'idge (Wisborne). .Section 2 (45 applicants), 50 acres ■A. T. Waddqll (Te Awamutu). Section 3 (40 applicants). —R, Cameron (Makauri). Section 4 (3S applicants), 72 acres.—J. J Hogan (Waimate). Sections 5 and 7, together (30 applicants), 78 acres.—F. Stewart (Wainfakc). ®

Section 0 (4S applicants). 03 acres. H. M. Thompson. Section S (40 applicants), 151 acres.— H. A. Griffiths (Hastings). Section i) (31 applicants), 422 acres -E. W. Wilson (Gisborne). Section 10 (20 applicants), 412 acres. —. .T. Hogan (Waimate). Section 11 (27 applicants), 448 acres— D. Campbell (Hastings). Section 12 (28 applicants), 4al acres. —>T. D. Mackie (Woodville).
