LINER FROM AMERICA.

OTHERS TO VISIT NEW PLYMOUTH. SATISFIED WITH HARBOR. The turbine steamer Lorain, which arrived at New Plymouth on Saturday morning, is tl.e first turbine driven vessel to come to New Plymouth, and she is also the first of a line of vessels belonging to the United States Government to visit here. She is one of 47 vessels built during the wnr.time activity, and which are now being used to open up a cargo service between the United States and Australia and New Zealand, The Lorain has a cargo capacity of about 10,000 tons. Two other similar vessels—the Donald McKay unci the Clupadoe—are also expected to visit New Plymouth. Mr. Milne, who is on board the Lorain this trip, represents the United States Government, and is here for tho purpose of meeting business men who wish to arrange for the shipment of any kind of goods from the 'United States to New Zealand. In the building of these vessels the owners gave very special consideration to the accommodation for the officers and crsw, and these quarters are a very big improvement on those provided on most vessels.

Captain Amberman, who commands the Loiain, stated that he had to report on the harbor here, with a view of deciding whether it should be included as a port of call for the line of vessels to which the Lorain belongs.. After seeing his vessel berthed by Captain Waller on Saturday, he had no hesitation in saying that his report would be a favorable one.
