ATHLETICS.
THE MANGATOKI MEETING. The Mangatokl AtWtetlc Club's meeting, after being postponed, was held in fine weather, a large crowd turning out to witness the day's sport,. The track was in good order, and the fields, though' small, provided close finishes. The secretary, Mi;, V. Marx, attended to his many duties in a very business-like manner, Mr. ,T. J. O'Dea, the handicapper, had every reason to be satisfied, as in no event was I here a runaway victory. The starter was Mr. A. N. Rogers, wlu got the fields well away !n each ease. The judges for the running events were Messrs, J. Phi lips and R. .T. f/'nn, while for the horse events, Messrs. T. Perry and W. T. Bailey offlciated. The Eitham Brass Band, under Conductor Besley, played several selections of music during the afternoon. Mrs. Foster, of Hawera, conducted the refreshment booth, and the "spread" laid out was a credit, to the lady. Detailed resiles are as follows 120 yards Maiden Race—C. AndeTson 1, V. Warner 2.
