TARANAKI PRESBYTERY.
NEEDS OF THE BACKBLOCKS. The Presbytery of Taranaki met 5n the ITiiwera Presbyterian Hall on Tuesday for the transaction of ordinary business (reports the Star). Some time was snent, in discussing tlic exchange crisis in relation to foreign missionary effort. Various congregations reported that steps were being taken to meet the increased demands of the fields. Rev. W. H. Ho'loway. known as "'the .Apostle of the North,'' addressed the Presbytery on t.he great need of mission work in New Zealand. One quarter of the North Island, was without regular religions services, and a. groat part of that without any at. all- Children were crowing up utterlv ignorant of God and the Bible. Tfe knew homes in North Auckland where three generations Could he found in what n'.is practicallr heathenism. Auckland eitv was faced with a great social problem because young people from the country were flung suddenly into fhe temptations of eitv life without anr moral or religious passengers left to tell the tale.

Plans for the new manse at New Plymouth were considered and referred back to the ennsrregntion for amendment. The Rev. W. TT- Tlollowav is the only Presbyterian minister who in recent years lias been given full ministerial status without jro'mcc through the theological course. This was done because of liis work in North Auckland. lie is travelling the Taranaki wovince in the interests of the £'20,0110 Fund for mission work in Now Zealand.
