FITZHOY DEFEAT WEST END, j By defeating \~Yest End o the New rlymouth green yesterday, Fitzroy gained the distinction of being the. victors in the northern division of Tnranaki, and will have to play off with Plhanta in the final for possession tno coveted trophy. The game was not as close as was anticipated, though at the tea aojournment there was only five points difference in the aggregate, Fitzroy leading by that margin. Some heads later West End were 14 down, and from then to tho close of tho gacno Fit'/.voy urew ahead, eventually winning by 3G points. West End got the major score at only one rink, Beal scoring an easy win against Abbott, but their greatest misfortune was the failure of SoJo's team.
In tlie Lobb v. Rennell game, at the fifth head, Lobb was 1 to 8, but Rennell then secured a couple and two fours, being 10 to 9 -at the ninth head. At tlie 18th head Rennell led by 10 to 15, and at the 21st Increased the advantage to 24—18, eventually winning by 12 points. Play between .1. D. Solo and McNeill wis very one-sided, Sole being unable to score till the ninth head, when he got 8, McNeill's score being 14. Up to tho 15th head Sole had only notched an additional three, while his opponent had reached 21), and Sole was only able to add four to his score during the remainder of play. A feature of the play at this rink was Smith's accurato drawing. No skip could desire a better third. The most evenly matched teams were those commanded by Billing and Jury. On the fourth head tho former led by 6 to 1. Then Jury opened out, getting 14 to U on the twelfth head, and kept tho lead throughout, getting Ave on the lflth., and three m the following head (all his team nutting in good wotlO, while Billing played an excellent game, getting within one of his opponent at the 21st head.
Beal was slow in scoring at the start, Wit at the 11th head was 18 to 7, while at the head he was 20 to 9, then Abbott scored at four heads in succession, but though his lead was playing well, he could not overhaul his opponent. Newell started well, getting 8 to 1 at tlie finish of the sixth head. Then Price secured <5 and 2, to which Newell resoonded with 'A and 4, and at the 14th head led by 18 to 14, but at the 21st head, P?ico got on level terms and thein went ahead and won with ten to spare. '
On the day's play, Ktzroy proved by far the ratter team and imay be congratulated on the wJn, still mora so \t they havo the good fortune to annex the trophy.
