Committee's Recommendations.—The Teachers' Selection Committee recommended tho following appointments:—Kent, sole teacher, Miss Eileen M Nlte; Hahirakau, sole teacher. Miss H. Dryden; Punlwhakau, sole teacher, Miss Oona Wnitkhis; Makaka, sole teacher, Mr. s. A. Amnion (provided he advances im qualifications}; Durham, sole teacher, Miss Lucy Prldeaur; Newall, sole teacher,, Mrs. J. St. M. Jones; Cardiff, head teacher, Mr T Boyle; Kaimlro, head teacher, 1 Mr. Ewart, 2 Mrs. Gibson; Omata, head teacher, Mr. L McHairOici; Norfolk, assistant. Miss Fenton; Otanglwal, assistant, consideration deferred ; Tawhlti, assistant, Hiss M Tate; Wnitana, Ist assistant, Mr J. C. Hall The Committee also recommended that the following probationers bo transferred, owing to the difficulty in getting board and lodgings in the districts they are now In: Miss E. Hobbs from Okalawa to Tawhlti; and Mr. L. M. Guild from Mnngatokl to Pungarehu. TRUANT OFFICER'S REPORT. The truant officer (Mr. G Pascoe) reported having visited 38 schools, where, with one or two exceptions, there had been sickness, especially at the commencement of the year. There was a nervousness on tho part of some parents about sending their children to school from fear of infection. These fears seem to be past now and later school reports and visits show that the Mtearxnca Is getting back to normal There are stii! a few cases of influenza, about. There had been 07 notices sent out for irregular attendances, and 36 schools had failed to send In roturns for the jnonth of March. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. The architect (Mr. C. H. Moore) reported on the new work in hand that the foundations of tho new Opunake school were completed and good progress was being made with tha walls. With the exception of a small gaoig on repair work, ho had concentrated all available hands on thLs work, so as to have the school ready before the winter weather sets In The whole of the material had been landed at Marakopa for the new school and the architect asked for the services of Mr. Pajicoo to carry out.this work and itlso probably the Ohura Junction school as well. Repairs were in hand at a number of ccuutry schools Mr. Moore also referred to matters dealt with at the conference of boards' architects. OHURA DISTRICT SCHOOLS. A report was made by Messrs. Trimble, Smith and Hoskln on their tour of the schools In the Ohura district, and a number of resolutions, embracing their recommendations as to the requirements of tho district, were submitted to the Board and carried. GENERAL. The following appointments on School Committees were confirmed: Albert, Mr. C. Smith; Oncarue, Mr. G Miller. It was decided that, subject to the raports of the senior Inspector and the architect indicating the noeesslt' f moro accommodation, an application f. grant for the enlargement of the Mln; 'hooi be forwarded to the Department It was also decided to make application for a grant for the erection of a residence for the teacher at Makaka School, and a grant for a new school at Koru. It was resolved to make application for the recognition and rent for tho building used as a. school at Moeroa. Tho matter of heating the building used as a Technical School at Manala, was referred to the architect to deal with, and it was resolved to inform the Committee that the provision of nibbiah receptacles was a matter for the Committee. It was decided to inform the Moeatoa Commissioner that the Board regrets at the present time It is not feasible to provide a tent, and' that with regard to the five children referred to In his letter, when they return to school the Board will bo pleased to make application to tho Department for a grant to provide temporary accommodation. The senior Inspector was asked to report as to whether, taking Into account the position of other schools in the neighbourhood, it Is likely that a permanent school would be required at Whehuakura, and If his report Is favorable an endeavor be made to have a five acre portion ot Ssction 15, Block XV., Aria, at present Crown land, reserved for a school site. It was decided to contribute £lO towards the cost of the school building erected by the Turoto settlers, provided the Board is not cn.Il«l upon for rent, and to apply to the Dcpirtmen' for a refund of the amount. It was decided to apply for a grant for the erection of a residence at Rowan, and also for additions to the school buildings subject to the recommendation of the Inspector and architect.
