FIRE AT EKETAHUNA. By Tplejruph —Press Association. ISketahuna, April 14. A Are was discovered at Hughes and Waterreu's stables at 11 o'clock last night. It had a good hold before it was discovered, and the stable and al! its contents were completely destroyed, and Herbert and Co.'s bulk store 'and sheds and contents. Marenzi, tobacconist, Ellis, baker, and Polling's board-ing-house, were saved by strenuous efforts. Hughes and Waterreu's- plant, including two lorries and a new motorcar, was practically uninsured. Their loss is very heavy. Herbert and Co's bull: store was insured for £1500; the contents arc- valued at £3OOO. relliii.tr, Marensi and Ellis suffered damage troni water. The total loss is about £12,000.
A SALE OP WOOL, Wellington, April 14; With reference to,a statement by Mr. Edie. candidate for Bruce, and published in parts of the Dominion, that a clip of "00 bales of wool from the Wakatipu district.had been sent Home direct and not sold through the Government, iv'r. Mii:isey states that since 1916 there has been an agreement that no wool should lie allowed to he shipped from the Dominion on private account, and none would lie allowed up to June 30, 1.020. The woo] referred to by Mr. Edie was evidently scoured wool," which, in common witli other wool, was submitted for valuation and purchased on behalf of the Imperial Government at Dmicilin and Tnvercanjill, and in due course snipped to the United Kingdom.
OTAGO HARBOR FINANCES. Dunedin, Last Night. A special meeting- of the Otago Harbor Hoard was held to-<!ny to discuss the tnatter of creating a rating area with n view of assisting the finance of the Board. The following resolution was carried:—"That in order to enhance the value of the securities the Board can offer to investors, and thereby reduce the rate of interest, and further to extend tlie powers of the Board in raising money for the carrying out of important development works, the Board forthwith take stops to seenrc legislation and other necessary power to rate property with in the district's boundaries which shall he duly determined, and to he known as the Otago Harbor Board." Three out, of ten members opposed the resolution.
