ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

THE ANNUAL MEETING, The annual meeting of the Taranaki Acclimatisation Society was held last night. The president (Mr. G. Grover) presided over an attendance of about twenty, THE SEASON REVIEWED, In moving the adoption of the report and bakuee-sheet (already published) the President congratulated -the Socic-ty on entering a more prosperous area. The work of t'lie society had included the expenditure of £53 12s 8d on fish, and £lO 7s 9d on pheasants. The angling had been very satisfactory for the season, especially in smaller streams where the trout were breeding and restocking the waters. The Waiwakaiho and Stony rivers were very disappointing. These were streams that experience liad shown must be artificially stocked. An attempt had been made to amalgamate with the Haw era and Stratford Societies, hut nothing of an advantageous nature resulted. The society was now faced with rearing its own fish and lie hoped members woud se'e wl.at could be done in the way of re-starting hatcheries in New Plymouth.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers for the year were elected as under.—President, Mr. G. G. Grover (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. X. Johnston, J, \\, Burton (Opunake); council, Messrs. L. B, Webster. 13. Guthrie, E. Douahe, L. Humphries, L. T. Rea, W. Bainsey.; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Val Duff (re-e'lectcd); auditor, Mr. T. Shaw.

GENERAL. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £lO 10s for his past year's work. The question of re-starting the fishing hatcheries was then discussed. The president pointed out that the Society'? income would riot, permit of buying fish and birds, as this would be too expensive. He would like to see the Society rc-start hatcheries both for trout and pheasant?, IJr. Guthrie moved, and Afr. Douche seconded, that it he a recommendation to the incoming Council thai the hatcheries bo established at the site of the oJd hatcheries, with the object of rearing yearling fish, and later on, breeding fish, provided a secure tenuro of tho premises can lie obtained. On a show of hands, the motion was carried by ten votes to nine. Messrs. W. 1.. Newman and A. H. Johnstone were elected honorary life members of the Society. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. 8. G. Smith, M.P., for his assistance ill securing fry from the Botorua hatcheries. It was decided that it be a- recomi mendation to the Council to form » committee to secure honorary members to the. society.

Votes of tlianks to outgoing officers and the Press were passed.
