THE JOCKEYS' DISPUTE.

WELLINGTON NOT AFFECTED. EARNINGS NOT PRINCELY. By Telecranli _p re ss Association. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the New Zealand Jockeys' Association was held to-day. The proceedings were private. The Association's dispute with the Avondale Club was considered and certain decisions reached. The secretary of the Association (Sir. C. C. Sheath) stated to-night that the jockeys regarded the dispute with Avondale as entirely a local dispute. "It will not affect the Wellington Racing Club as far as we are concerned in nnv chape or form," said Mr. Sheath. "All members of the Association will fulfil their engagements at Trentliam. tomorrow and Saturday." Mr., Sheath added that the officers'of the Wellington Club had always treated the representatives of the Association with e\ery courtesv.

"There is no doubt that the racing public have an idea, that the Jockeys earn princely salaries," added the secretary. "The Association went to the trouble of compiling a list of earnings of jockeys for last season, and the average of all the boys riding was £Sfl 14s 7d for the Reason, and from that sum dubs deduct 2$ per cent. The boys have also to pay their travelling and living expenses while attending meetings." Replying to an inquiry about the iockevs' dispute, and the possibility of his meeting a deputation from the iTockeys' Association, Mr. Massey «aid that since he had appointed a Conciliation Commissioner to deal with the dispute he could not well interfere ill it, as nresumablv the matters on which the jockevrs would wisli to address him would lie sub-judice pending an investigation by Mr. T-Tallv.

A meeting of the labor representative committee passed a resolution giving strong support to the stand taken by the Jockeys' Association at Auckland.
