NEW DEMANDS BY MEN.
By Telegrapn.—Press Assoclntlon. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland tramwaymen plaeed the demands of their union before the City Council to-day. Wages are claimed for under six headings, i.e., traffic conductors, motormen, signalmen, and car cleaners from 2s Id to 2s 3d per hour; depot shed laborers and car cleaners, blacksmith strikers, pitmen and car examiners from 2s Id to 2s 3d; workshops, general laborers, caretaker, blacksmith, strikers, overluuilers. car adjusters, machine driller, machine moulder, coachworkers, from 2s Id to 2s 3d; permanent way repairers avid trackmen 2s 2d; overhead wagon drivers, assistant linesmen, linesmen, and emergency men 2s 2d to 2s 3d; powerhouse trimmers, storemen, handymen, firemen, and greasers, conveyor Attendant, switchboard, sub-statidns, and dynamo attendants, pumphouso attendants, from 2s Id to 2s 3d for all branches of the service with tlie exception of traffic, for which a week of 48 hours is stipulated. A 47-hour week with payment for 48 hours is claimed. The Council will further consider the demands on Monday. ' •
