THE ELECTORAL LAW.

M.P. AND HIS EXPENSES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. At the Eiverton Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. G. Cruickshanks, S.M., Adam Hamilton, M.P... was charged on the information of the returning officer of the Wallace electorate, with failing to furnish a return of his election expenses within the specified time. The prosecutor said a return had been supplied signed by the defendant's secretary, but ho contended that it did not comply with the Act. Defendant's counsel said that Mr. Hamilton went to Samoa with the Parliamentary party. He was in Wellington when the declaration arrived, and he instructed his secretary to forward the necessary particulars, which was done. He contended that it was unnecessary to forward receipted accounts. Decision was reserved.
