Tho credit bank balance now stands at £147 13s Cd. The finances of the society, however, still renulro very careful administration, and It is again to He urged that If all who should legally do so took out licenses the society woij-d probably ho In a very flourishing condition It 13 suggested that, license holders who know of persons shooting or fishing without licenses should bring the matter to the notice of tho executive, who will take the necessary action. Tho past shooting season showed a marked increase in pheasants, and the post breeding season was a good one: quail are also numerous. Many good bags were obtained during the last season, and this season sportsmen may expect even better. Arrangements have- been mado for the Tormnt.on of a sanctuary (for all game), consisting of about 400(1 acres lying to tho south of tho South Road, and between, that road and ihe radius line, and extending from the old Oakura dairy factory up to and Including the Titone Road at Tatauiimaka. Tho society has liberated a breeding stock of pheasants in this sanctuary and reports to hand show that the birds are doing well It is to be noted that, native pigeons aro again absolutely protected. The past fishing season has shown good sport In the country streams, and some good bags have been obtained Ten thousand fry were liberated in' the Walau River at Opunakc, and 4000 yearlings in the Waiwakaiho River. The latter river needs re-stocking very badly, and tho work should be undertaken as soon a.s passible The lake to bo formed under the hydro-electric scheme, some 78 acres, should prove, when completed, an ideal spot for the 'lteration of rain bow trout, and its stocking will have to be undertaken In the future. A conference was held between representatives of the Taranakl, Stratford, and Hawera societies to discuss tho possibility of forming one society for the whole of Taranakl, thereby cutting down workfng expenses, etc., but was entirely abortive. It is now evident that the society is faced with the re-ostabllsh-ment of a trout hatchery, and this (matter will be discussed. As this matter is of the greatest importance to the future of the society alone, and others of great Interest wll l be presented to the meeting, It is to be hoped that all sportsman who can possibly do so will make a point of attending art Wednesday evening. «
