A cable from Sydney says the Loyal Orange Grand Council of Australasia, at its biennial meeting, elected Mr. J. Midleton, of New Zealand, Grand President. The Hon. C. J. An operation was performed on Wednesday from which he failed to recover. Mr. Greatbach leaves a widow and two daughters.

Mrs. Serr'ie, of Punedin, celebrated her 100 th birthday on Wednesday. This aged lady, frcsh-complexioned and scarcely bowed by her years, received the congratulations of friends at her home in Trent Avenue, where, as she explained, owing to the inability of her daughter, 82 years of age, to move about freely, she does the bulk of the housework herself, and challenges the most scrupulous to present a cleaner house (reports the Otago Times). Mrs. Serrie came to Dunedin from Ayrshire 45 years ago. A trifle hard of hearing, she has remarkably long sight, while with the aid of a magnifying glass she can still read. Mr. R. T).
