EMPIRE STATISTICS. By Teiegraph.—Press Assn.—CopyrightLondon, April 7. The report of the Imperial Conference recommends the early formation of an Empire Bureau of Statistics and suggests that the money necessary for the maintenance of the bureau be provided by a joint contribution from the various countries concerned in a proportion agreed upon, for example on the basis of the appropriation before the conference which was: United Kingdom 1(1, India 4, Canada 3%, Australia 2, New Zealand 1, South Africa 1%, colonies and protectorates 2, all in thousands sterling. AMERICA AND RUSSIA. London, April 8. A Moscow wireless message of April 8 declares that a rapprochement is imminent between the United States and Russia. The first steps will be taken by Mr. Hoover's Food Commission, which is shortly arriving in Russia to alleviate distress.

In the course of a speech nn universal suffrage the Premier declared it aimed at the destruction of social and class distinctions and even aimed at tampering with the conscription system, which was the basis of the country's defence. The Government felt it must remain in power and would redouble its efforts to this end. MARY PICKFORD'S MARRIAGE. New York, April 7. A Ruit to annul the marriage of Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, based on collusion and conspiracy, has been entered at. Renj. Nevada, at the instance of the State authorities.-—Alls, and N.Z.
