TAJRANAKI ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL ( MEETING. The annual meeting of the Tarnnaloi llockey Association was held at Hawera. rhe following delegates were present: Messrs. H. Yo'iing and S. Applications for affiliation bv the Old Boys' Hnwera Club and the Inglewood Hub were granted. The annual report stated that Kaponga, Eltham, Stratford, and Hawera combined had entered for the competition, which had been won by Kaponga, <V faranaki team had journeyed to Wanganui and had been defeated by 7 goals to 1, the combination of Wanganui being too strong for the local team, though the latter put up a hard fight, fne return match Was played at s.aponga, and Taranaki was again defeated by 3to 'I. Mr. Shepherd was selector for the first match, and Mr. Inest (Kaponga). and Mr. Atkin (Hawera Combined) for the second match. I lie Association's finance was in a fair way, there being a balance of £ls 10s 4d to start the coming year with. The balance-sheet show'ed the following item: Receipts—Balance brought forward £$ ss, interest 16s, affiliation fees jt<> 4s, donations £3 14s, hockey books Usi fid; total, £l9 fis 6d. Expenditure -Affiliation New Zealand Association, S, ,! M J rule books £1 10s > sundries £1 14s 8d; total, £4 Cs 2d. The president, in moving the adoption « the report and balance-shet, said lie hoped they would preserve their finances in their present healthy condition. The money would be needed later to meet the expenses of representative matches. From the number of delegates present, it looked as though Aere was going to be a revival of Interest in hockey, which had been ratlicr dead during the war. It might be deemed advisable to split their district m half, so as to reduce the expenses vrhen the various elubs meet in matches. He urged upon members the necessity for practice if hockey was going to retain its place as a sport. The motion was seconded by Mr MeFadgen, and carried.

_ The following officers Were elected: Patron, Mr. W. D. Powdrell, M.P.- president, Mr. McCarthy; vice-presidents, presidents of affiliated clubs; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Horace Robinson; delegate to New Zealand Association, Mr. A. E. Sicker.

The Stratford delegates urged that the headquarters of the Association should be shifted to Stratford, on the grounds that it was central and would be more convenient for the various clubs. A motion was brought forward in favor of this,

| The change was opposed by Mr. Morrissey, and as a compromise it was suggested that the meetings be held alternately in Hawera, El'tham, Stratford, and kaponga. The motion was lost bv o votes to 4, and it was resolved that Hie annual meeting and other meetings of the Association bo. held alternately In the four centres named, Hawera to' remain the headquarters. - An amendment in favor of Eltham as headquarters met with little support. It was decided that the meetings of ■tin Association be held in the second Wednesday in each month.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Sicker for his services to the club as delegate to the New Zealand Association.

It was resolved that the secretary of the home team shall in all' cases notify the secretary to the association of the result of matches.

Mr. Shephard moved that a. snb-com-mittee be set up consisting of Messrs. Young, McFadgen, and the mover, to draw up rules and submit them to' the next meeting of the association. This nrns seconded by Mr. Priest and carried. The question of whether there should be one or two divisions for fixtures was discussed. It was pointed out that no delegate was present from Mew Plymouth, which could form a northern division if it pleased. It was agreed that there be only one division, on the understanding that if othor teams came in before the fixture's the position is to be reviewed.

The opening of the season's fixtures was fixed for May 12, and it was decided that nominations close on April 28. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Sliephard, McFadgen, and Priest was appointed to arrange matches. - Mr. Morrissey moved that the association strongly supports the universal Saturday half-holiday.*~Carried.

The difficulty of obtaining referees was mentioned, and it was urged that a Referees' Association should be formed. It frequently happened, Mr. Priest stated, that a match was delayed becauscd no referee was present. A subcommittee consisting of Messrs. Priest (Eaponga), Pennington (Eltham), Elgar (Stratford), McFadgen and Rage (Hawera) and Stephens (Inglewood) Was appointed to form an association The committee was given power to add to their number, and Mr. Stephens was appointed convenor. It was stated anyone prepared to join the association could communicate with the, secretary (Mr. Robinson). In reply to -a question as to Whether any provision was to be made for junior competitions it was stated that junior hockey had been killed in Hnwera ns far as playing at school was concerned, but if any clubs formed junior teams tlie association would have to recognise them.

The appointment of selectors was de ferret! till next meeting.

On the motion of Mr. Shepharrt tne subscription fee to the association for each club was'fived at 'ls Is, no entrance fee to be charged. HAWERA OLD BOYS' CLUB At a meeting of the general committee of the Hawera Old Boys' Club, the. following new officers were elected: Patron. Mr. W. D. Powdrell, M.P-; further vice-presidents, Messrs. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council for free use of King fidward Park recreation ground for hockey purposes, also, to be placed on a par with other hockey clubs at present using these grounds.
