PLUNKET SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health, of Women and Children, popularly known as the Plunket Society, took place in the Society's rooms, Brougham Street, last night. There was a very good attendance, Mrs. W. C. Weston presiding. COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The annual report of the committee congratulated, the society on another successful year. Reference waV made to the purchase of a motor car for the use of the nurse, and to the excellent result that had attended the work oh account of the possession of the car. Changes in oflicem of the society were also auctioned. The committee decided tomake as few appeals as possible to tlie public, and therefore concentrated on* the effort in connection with Dominion 1 Baby Day, when £3BO were raised in New Plymouth. A tribute was paid to : the splendid and untiring efforts of Nurse Williams to carry on work which was really more than enough for one woman, and the committee had applied to the Central Council for a second nurse, in order to be able to cope properly with the work. Reference was also made to the visit of Dr. Trnby King to New Plymouth, and also to the society's part in the presentation and farewell to Lady Liverpool. Thanks were expressed to the public for continued support, to the Borough Council, to Mr. Sole, and Mr. Medley, and to the Press. The balance-sheet showed la credit in hand of £425 fis.
NURSE'S REPORT. Nurse Williams reported steadily increasing work throughout the year! The total number of visitors to the room was 3,744, and the visits paid to homes numbered 3,002. The new cases taken irp numbered 102. Stratford and Inglewood were visited weekly during October am* November, and the cases dealt with numbered S8 at the former and 10 at the latter. The total number of cases for the year was 6,928, compared with 3,429 for the previous year. The nurse stated the ear had been of great service and had enabled her to do work which otherwise would have had to be passed over. She thanked the officers and committee of the courtesy and consideration extended her in all* her work. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted an follows: President, Mrs. C. H. Burgess; vice-presidents, Mcsdamea J. Clarke (Mayoress), S- G. Smith, and Newton King; committee, Mesdamcs N King W. Ambury, S. Q. Smith, Hickman, Russell, Miliar, W. C. Weston, ; Jenkin, 1,. B. Webster, Maleolmson, McHardv, Roebuck, Val Duff, Ross, Barthorpe, Chanev Stewart Russell, Nicholson, T. Shaw and Stnndish, and the Misses Wade, Andrews and Stanford; secretary, Mrs Stewart Russell; advjsory committee. Ur. Wade, Messrs. J. C. Nicholson and 0. I'rasor. Mr. S. Burgess was nominated for the office of treasurer. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officers and committee, special reference being made to the work of the president (Mrs. Weston) and the secretary (Mrs. Standish). Nurse Williams came in for some expressions of warm appreciation of her very valuable work throughout the distnct.
