Mr. Maurice .AHorn, of Auckland, who lias been appointed branch manager for Tarannki for the United Insurance Company, has taken up his duties.

Constables D. .T- O'Neill, of Eahotu, and .T. Nolan, of New Plymouth, who have been on annual leave, returned by the mail train last night. Mr. J. H. Fowler, for many ' years Government Audit Inspector for Tarannki, spent his Easter vacation in New Plymouth, and left by the mail train yesterday on his return to Wellington.

Mr. H. AVaite yesterday resigned his seat on the Clifton County Council on account of being no longer a ratepayer in the County. The resignation was accepted with regret, and appreciative references were made to his services as a councillor.

Beale, who has come from the Parish of St. Barnabas (Auckland) to Te Hcnui (New Plymouth), was instituted as vicar by the Ven. ' There died at Gisborne lately Captain A. P. Hardy. He was the grandr.on of a world-famous man, the Navy Staff Officer, who was the most intimate with Lord Nelson, and who was the last person to speak to the famous Admiral. Nelson, as all the world knows, was shot by a musketeer from the swaying top of the "Redoubtable," and wan taken away to die. Here his staff gathered round him, including Captain Hardy, a brilliant young officer, and a man whom Nelson loved. He had taken leave of man} officers, but. when Hardy, weeping, bent over him, (he great .Admiral said simple, "Kiss me. Hardy." and with these words died. The late Captain H. !•'. Hardy, wiio died at the age of SO '■cpvs. sewed valiantly in the Maori rehellions.
