REINDEER PASTURES.
CANADA'S WIDE ACRES. London, March 24. Vilhjalmur Stefansson, the Arctic explorer, has arrived in London. In an interview with a representative of the Daily Mail, lie said tlmt a huge pasture of 1,500,000 square miles was available in North Canada for the herding of reindeer. The vegetation is rich, and the country is capable of producing more meat per acre than any other. Reindeer meat in New York at present is three times the price of beef. An earlier message stated that Stefansson, addressing members of the Canadian House of Commons, outlined a scheme for the breeding of reindeer in North Canada, with a view to adding to the meat supplies of the country. He proposed the assignment of jO,OOO square miles for two years, without taxation or expectation of revenue, as a breeding area, and estimates that the meat could be produced at a total cost of two cents per pound, and could be sold in New York for 60 cents.
