BOWLING.
THE BANNER COMPETITION. FITZBOY DEFEAT NEW PLYMOUTH. After a Tory keen contest on the Fltaroy' green yesterday, the visitors were defeated by 11 points. Both clubs were strongly represented, and the game attracted the Interest of a. number of spectators. Both s:des kept continuous watch on the progress ot the scores. About the fifteenth head, Fitzroy led by 24 points, but as the play progressed New Plymouth made a good recovery, though unable to get on even terms. The veteran. S. Rundle, ably assisted by Burgess, made top scoro for the visitors by excellent play, while A. K. Smart and H Smart went down badly. For Fitzroy, Abbott, Price and Jury were In fine form, proving 'much superior to their opponents, while Smith and Rennell were badly down. The green was hear? after the rain, but was drawing well when the bowls were not clogged by worm casts. On the play, the better team won, and the final between Fitzroy and Westown should be well worth witnessing. Details of scores are as follow, New Plymouth names mentioned first at each rink:— C.
