DROP IN GOLD VALUES.
FEAR OF CRISIS IN SOUTH AFRICA. Received April S, 2.15 p.m. By Tel?graiu,—Press Assn— Copj-risbt. Capetown, April 7. Last year's crisis in connection with tho low grade mines, which wcr, averted' by a rise in the gold values, has been revived owing to a sudden drop in the gold premium, with its value at 110 a last month, and said to be one of the most disastrous in the history of the industry. Tha drop in the gold premium is due to an improvement in tiro trade position of Kngland, and the large exports of fold. If it continues, the opinion on the Rand is that many low (.mule mines will be seriously aiFec'ted, and will probably be compelled to close.—United Service.
