Mr. B. K. Long-, Australasian editor of the London Times, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Messrs J. B. Roy and D. Hutchan, v/lio have been spending the holidays in Wellington, returned to New Plymouth last nightOwing to failing health, M. Clemenceau, who is now in Cairo, has abandoned his visit to Greece, and returns to France (says a cable from London). A telegram from Christeluirch reports the death of Mr. Charles Ellison, exMayor, and a prominent citizen for many years. Captain Tahu Rhodes left Auckland by the Makura for Suva, where lie will await the arrival of the Prince of Wales, and accompany His Royal Highness to Xew Zealand.

While on furlough at Greenvale, Victoria, Captain K. B. Morrisoil, M.C., a non of Mrs. Morrison, Christchurch, was drowned. Captain Morrison held a commission in the Indian Army. Mr. A. E. Beamish and Mr. A. HLowe, who represented Britain in the recent Davis Cup tennis competitions in Australia, and have since played in the various centres of the Dominion, left Auckland by the Makura on their return journey to England. Mr. Warrington Laing, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, accompanied by Mr. C. M. Reid, the London secretary, have arrived in New Zealand on a visit of inspection of the various branches of the company. Mr. Christensen, chairman of the Patea Harbor Board, mentioned at Wednesday's meeting of the Board that tho term' of his Appointment as a member would shortly expire. Several members i-aid it would be a mutter for regret if Mr. Christensen, who had proved an able chairman and hnd given much of his time to the work of the Board, should cease to he a member, and on the motion of Mr. Grainger it was decided to write to the Minister for Marine and recommend bis re-appointment. Mr. Christensen; in acknowledging tho compliment paid him, snid lie certainly had a desire to ~ec works now in progress completed before relinquishing office.— Star.
