The Dublin correspondent of The Times writes:- Ail sections of public opinion realise that the Government must change it.? methods quickly to prove its earnestness for a settlement. it must devise new methods to suppress crime. The authorities are confronted with a heavy task but, if firm, and tactful, they will find immediate support from large sections of the community. The most deplorable feature of the outrages was the existence of such n widespread plot without the authorities having the slightest knowledge. The raids were carried out simultaneously throughout the country, the incendiaries in every instance escaping detection. The Irish Times, commenting on the outrages, says the Government is being rudely and swiftly snatched from English hands. Freeman's Journal says that patience and brains are already more than a match for bayonets and barricades and more memorable triumphs arc not likely to be long delayed. PENALTY FOR A CRIMINAL.
