WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 7. The Easter holidays being over, the town has resumed its mantle of business activity. I suppose the next dav off will be the visit of the Prince to Taranaki's city.
The local attraction on Easter Monday was the sports got up by-.a sub-commit-tee of the proposed Soldiers' and Citizens' Club, their efforts in this direction being rewarded with success financially. Not many entries were received away from the town, and I would suggest, if carried on next year, a bigger advertising scheme.
The sports wer e inclined to drag a good deal and no doubt if they had been enlivened with a bit of music it would have been alright. Since the war every other sport or organisation has been resuscitated except the band, and perhaps, some day it will come out of its comatose state.
Mr. Ben Limmer, who since leavin" His Majesty's forces has taken up his residence in Rotorua, is on a visit here, and is spending a month's holiday before returning to sulphur town. ' The steamer Port Chalmers is expected to arrive in the roadstead on Monday next. In addition to takin- in about 14 barge loads from the local works, there are fiOOO freight carcases being railed from the Smart Hoad Works.
Miss A. Bernsten is being given charge of the Waitafa School during the absence of the headmaster on sick leave Miss Lewis, of Hawera, will hold the post of first assistant temporarily. Captain Muir, late of the s.s.' Huia has been appointed master of the locally owned 0. V. Mahoe.
