MASTER PLUMBERS. ' By Telejraph,-—Press Association. Invereargill, Last Night. At the annual conference of the Master Plumbers' Federation, the following officers were elected:-—President, Mi'. AN OLD MAN'S BEHAVIOUR. Auckland, April C. The lighthouse-keeper at the North Head, Manukau, one night recently saw a wild-looking man emerge from the bush at Mount Beacon and wave a cloth or handkerchief. The keeper concluded that the visitor was an escaped lunatic, and hastened to advise the police. The latter were unable to reach the lighthouse that night, but got in touch with two bushmen. who, early in the morning, found the man sleeping in the light-keeper's chair, the mechanism being none the worse for his guardianship. He proved to be a harmless old man, suffering from ill-health, who motored to Titirangi, dismissed the taxi, and got lost in the bush, till, coming upon 'he lighthouse, he conceived Iho idea of signalling a passing steamer. He was very low in physical condition, and was conveyed to ihe nearest police station. He satisfied the police that, beyond eccentricity, there was nothing to warrant his detention, and ho was ultimately handed over to his friends. DISORDER IN DUNEDIN. Dunedin, April 6. In the Police Court to-day, three men appeared as the result of street disturbances yesterday, being variously charged with drunkenness, assault, obstructing the police, and obscene language. One man received two inontha f another 14 days, and the third was fined. The Magistrate said the Bench from time to time had endeavored to impress upon people the seriousness of obstructing and assaulting the police. Assaults on the police were absolutely unjustifiable.
