NOTES ON THE RACING. (By Telegraph.—Special to Daily News.) Auckland. April 3. The main feature of to-day's racing was the nucceas which attended McPlynn's riding. He steered three Amis, two seconds, and one third out of seven rides. Stipendiary stewards McMahon and Murchlson were present, and as a result of the fall of Islngarch In the opening event held an Inquiry, O'Shea (on Bonnotter) coming In for some questioning. However, the evidence was not sußclent for any action to bo taken. Hockley, the rider of Maioha, In the Easter, was suspended for the meeting, owing to his striking McConmac (on General Advance) after the horses passed the post. Bebuft and Llansannor were the only withdrawals from the President's Handicap, for which Esthonia was irfadc favorite. He was In the picture with Blue Cross making the running in the. early part, but Tlnopal assumed command half a mile from home. However, once the straight was reached, Bnnnetter came through and won easily from Ksthonla, who was steadied in the middle stages, but for which he might have been closer up. He should win on the trip Woody Glen did not get. away too well, while Islngarch lost his rider. The winner will have to be taken seriously In a better class, as she won Impressively at the right end. The (Ireat Northern Oaks proved the best of good things for Matatane, who was only third favorite to Rose Queen and Miss fiold, owing to a report that the Hastings candidate had a bad trip un on the boat However, she wasalways in front at a leisurely pace,. and had no difficulty In winning In the moderate time of 2 41.
; Rekanul, Mill o' Cowrie, Khartoum, Tlrau and Golden Petal were withdrawn from the Hurdles, for which Thrace was favorite, but fifth was his place, behind Explorer (fourth) nt the close, the weight proving too much. Deviation had a big lead and looked unbeatable until the second last fence, when ho wade a faulty effort and Oluetanus and Mraconl decreased the gap. There was not m\ich between the trio at the last fence, but. once over, the well-seasond Marconi ran home a comfortable winner from Deviation, who Just beat Oluetanus The latter and WJlmal will Improve with the race, while jfjuui Klw iiti bit above hl»u»'«
As was generally anticipated, Humbug accounted for the other two-year-olds engaged in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. He was always in front of Blackmail, who defeated a. sound finishing challenge from Landslide, with the moderates, Miss Muriel and Lovelight in the rear. The Easter Handicap field of twelve went away to a good despatch, Ruatara and Tlgritiya being the early beginners from Hyniestra. The latter got in too close t' Tigrltlya before half the distance was covered, and. Tlgritlya was forced back fourth, leaving Ruatara and Hymestra to make most play out in. front, Hymestra had Rua'ara beaten before the straight entrance, but in the run home Tigrltlya forged her way to the front again and looked likely until Gazlque came on the outside and gained the honors by a half length. Had Tigrltlya not met with the interference mentioned she may have won, but nevertheless Gazlque deserved the honors, for he was well back at one stage. His party threw in for a good win. Ruatara was finishing on well again in fourth place, whilo Uncle. Ned was also handy at Die close, and will claim attention over the longer distance on Monday. Of the others Maloha was finishing on fairly well, while Roekfleld and Taiamal looked well enough, and must not be condemned. The Taranakl colt, Ture Laziness, was the prime selection for the Onslow Stakes, but, after beginning -ell, was fairly beaten into] third place by two Australian importations, Geoffrey and Doveiet. The former, who won, is by The Sybarite—lrish Mist, and is owned by that good sportsman, Ewen Alison. Doveiet is a Thallster filly who will do better. Dunedin again disappointed his partv, though Illumination, a coll by Limelight, was with the leiiders at the home turn and then faded out. The hack event wont to the St. Lg*r candidate, Tlnolioro, one of Hannon's team. He got to the front early, but his rider kept at him to keep in front of Explode, who finished Second. An outsider. In Prince Rufus, was third, and the top-weight, War Tank, fourth. This gelding «ean be looked for shortly, as he Is a good sort of hack. Formaline andl Mountain Gold shaped disappointingly. Tom Moore ran a fair race Lord Kenllworth and Archie (the favorite combination) failed to show up in the Eden Handicap, the winner turning up in the lightly weighted Tamaroa, who came on the scene seriously in the straight and foi:»ht out a ereat finish with Crowhurst, the latter running his best race for some time. Mill 0 .! ° W! S E< * t0 the ft 0 "1 early and looted unbeatable at the home turn, but stepped badly when tackled. Vagabond finished on well third, with his welter Impost and Is going to be troublesome in distance events shortly. SECOND DAY'S ACCEPTANCES.
