THE CHANNEL TUNNEL.
NEW SCHEME SUGGESTED. By Telegraph—Preu Awn.—Copyright Received April 4, 5.5 p.m. Vienna, April 2, Jamesch, an engineer, addressing the Institute of Engineers, suggested a floating tunnel across the English Channel, consisting of ferro-conerete tubes a few yards below the. surface, where v the currents are slight. The tubes would be held secure by wire cables to the bottom. The tunnel could be constructed in a year at a cost of £0,000,000. Such a work would have considerable advantages over an underground tunnel, which would bo a more difficult ant costly enterprise. Similar tunnels would be suitable for the Straits of the Dardanelles and Gibraltar.— 4, U B> N.Z. Cable Assn.
