ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) March 31. The Eltham Fire Brigade, held a social evening last night, when the prizes won in the recent competitions were presented. A welcome home was given to several soldier members. The Mayoi presided. The championship cup, presented by Mr. Vincent, wa-s won by Fireman Phillpots, also a gold medal presented by Captain Nuttall. In making the presentation, Captain Nuttall said that five members competing for such a handsome j trophy was not sufficient, and next year there would have to be ten entrants or the event would 'be struck out. Five years' service medals were presented to Secretary Hinck, Firemen Hornblow, Hastedt, and V. Phillpots. The Cresswell cup and gold medal, with a picture, presented by Fireman Burrows, were won by Fireman H. Rogers. Light refreshments were provided, and the usual toast list was gone through, including "Returned Soldiers," which was replied to by Fireman Grant, V.C., of Hawera. Several songs were contributed, and a pleasant evening was spent. The Eltham Pipe Band has decided, if arrangements can be made, to assist at the sports meeting at Kaponga in aid of the Hostel for the Blind.
