WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent), The North Taranaki Horticultural Show finished on Saturday evening, there being a very poor attendance, no doubt because of the boisterous weather. • This year football should be on a good footing, most clubs report having had good annual meetings, there being a good many players available. At the Taranaki Rugby Union meeting at StTatford five members of the executive were appointed from New Plymouth. Surely this is unequal representation and not in the best inter: ests of football. Eltham, Stratford, Inglewcod and Waitara take a backseat, and instead of a Taranaki Rugby Union, it resolves itself into a New Plymouth Union. Businesses and property have been changing frequently of late. It Is reported that Mr. Ayton has sold his business to Mr. Fowler, Mr. MKJor.agle has sold his billiard room interests. Messrs, Waters Bros., their bakery business to Mr. Cruiekrdianks, Mr. C. O-Io (chemist) selling to a Mr. Can (a returned soldier), whilst Mr. Ridgelv has taken over the lease of the Waitara Hotel. The local grocers are taking a holiday from Thursday evening, the Ist, and re opening on Tuesday morning, the •Ith. The drapers and other shopkeepers are keeping open on Saturday. Chautauqua has opened. Three shillings for a concert is a bit over the odds for the working classes. Mr. Perkins preached his farewell sermon on Sunday evening He takes over his new charge at Inglewood on Thursday next. The s.s. Mamari is expected in the roadstead on Monday on Tuesday next, when she will lift about 11.000 carcases (about a week's killing) and wool. April 1.
At the meeting of the Seaside and Surf Bathing Societv the secretary read the balance sheet for the recent picnic, which, considering the weather, was satisfactory, the credit balance being £6 10s 3d. It was resolved that euchre parties be held fortnightly, starting from April 19th. Mr. Garth's trophy, which was not competed for on Tabor Shield day. will be cometed for at the sports on Easter Monday, the distance to be 100 yards handicap. Mr. Butler, who is leaving the school, was presented yesterday with a silver cake dish bv the scholars.
