Swanee River, has been scratched for all engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club meeting. ELTHAM MEETING. Eltham people will learn with pleasure that the committee of the Eltliam Racing Club have made ■ arrangements for the holding of the club's first meeting. The gathering which will, of course, take place without a totalisator, will be held on the Hawera racecourse on May 14. Tl)e Hawera Jockey Club's winter meeting takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, 12th and 13th., and the Eltham Club's meeting on the next day, Friday, 14th. The Hpwera Club has very generously placed its course and appointments at ffia disposal of the Eltham Club free of all charge, a kindness which will he heartily appreciated The ' programme for the meeting has already ■ been drawn up, and submitted to the Tavanakl Metropolitan' District Committee for approval. It has been suggested that Eltham business people should observe a close holiday on the ■ day of the meeting and do all in tnetr powor to enable the Club to Justify its demand for •i totalisator permit. The value of the meeting to the business people of the town will greatly outweigh any sacrifice that may he made to enable the Club to obtain the required permit.—Argus.
