IMPROVED 'BUS SERVICE.
Mr. Arthur ,T, Smith, who, sli or seven years ago, initiated it motor bus service between New l'lymnuth and Waitara, and lias maintained that service, often through trying circumstances, with Increasing satisfaction to patrons, has now acquired a. new bus which Is to be jiut into commission to-day and which should unlike his service one of the moat efficient, as well as comfortable, in the whole llominion. The vehicle which Mr. Smith has asquired is probably the first of its kind to be introduced in New Zealand. It is a "White" super-bus. the chassis being specially <!csigued for such work. Jt is a 511-li.j). machine, and the makers have built it with a view to comfort as well as speed r l is callable of travelling :ir, miles an hour and her load capacity is 110 passengers. No other lehioles carrying as many passengers run on pneumatic tyres. This liiiaeliliif. will be put on the New riymoulh-U'aitara-Miiiii Hoad service and will leave the country terminus every moraine at 5.15, reaching town at !1.4r,.' she will leave again in the afternoon at 1) III) rcm-hing Mimi at s'a. ft is .Mr Smith's intention to keep to a strict time-table, so that passengers from intermediate districts may be able tr. rely upon catching tne bus at. a particular time. The Waitiira-New Plymouth service will be maintained as at present by Mr. Smith's second bus, which leaves Waitara. daily at 845 a.m. and 2 p.m., and, New l'lywioulh at 11 a.m. and 4 p in. Both vehicles are painbpd a distinctive color and the proprietors advice to patrons is to "wait for the grey bus " The new machine will make the. afternoon trip to the country to-day, and after coining into town to-morrow morning will make a special trip to the Urnti Beach sports Mr. Smith's enterprise in this service, which lias proved of such benefit to the people of the outlying districts, is to be highly commended, and the possibility of linking up with other services extending further Into "tlio country Is not being lost sight of, and there is every probability that when the metalliP" of Mt.
