FIRE AT FOXTON.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Foxton, March 29. Another disastrous fire broke out at 11.30 p.m. last night at the rear of Pereeau's bakery business, in the Main Street. The whole of the block and an old wooden block adjoining, owned by Hennessy, were destroyed. ' Perreeau's block was occupied by Mattar, tobacconist, Pcrreean's shop, a dwelling, the Marble Bar, and Ryder's boot establishment. Hennessy's buildings were occupied by Heasinon, tailor, Dudson, fruiterer, and C. 11. Ross' drapery business, in all, seven business premisesThe Red Shield Club, detached by about 20ft from the Hbnnessy block, was 6aved. The stocks from the various chops were salvaged. The only fire-fitting appliances are R small single cylinder chemical engine, which despite the splendid efforts of the brigade was totally inadequate to cope with the conflagration. Perreean's Building was insured for £ISOO. The other insurances are not ascertainable. The fire is one of the most disastrous | experienced, and the cause of the outbreak is a mystery. Foxton, Last Night. Following are the insurances in connection with last night's fire:—Perreeau Building (State) .CI 550, stock £225 (National); Hennessy's Building, £!)00 (Northern); stocks: C. M. Ross £IOOO (North British), £IOOO (Standard); Ryder £'l2oo (Ouardmn); Heasman £HO (Commercial Union); Mattar £3OO (Commercial Union): Dudson, £l5O (Commercial Union). It will cost £IO,OOO to replace the buildings.
