MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.' Present: Messrs G. H. Bullard (chairman), J. Heslop, C- J. Ryan, N. K. Cleland, and J. W. H. Martin. The 'Under-Secretary for Lands notified the re-appointment of Mr. Martin as a member of the Board, and the members congratulated Mr. Martin on his reappointment and welcomed him back. The lessees of Section 2, Block X, Malioe, are to show cause why the lease should not he forfeited for non-improve-ment.

Four mortgages over education leases were approved. Application to grant the fee simple of Section 33, Block I, Tangitu, was agreed to, but Section 39 cannot be treated with until improvements are done.

It was resolved to recommend the purchase of a small area fronting Section I, Block IV, Ohura, at a cost of £l4.

The report of the arbitrator for renewal of lease of E. 8., Lot I, Section W., New Plymouth, was received and confirmed.

Action was taken re granting a renewal of lease of Section 40, Block VI, Xgaire, on terms to be communicated to lessee.

It was resolved to open Section 2, Block XIII, Mapara, for general application by soldiers. The reports of Crown lands? Banger Ward were adopted re exchange to renewable lease of Section 44, Block XI, Waitara, "action 8, Block XII, Witara, and Sectiuj 10, Block XII, Waitara. Mr. A- Good was appointed valuer to assess the rental of Section 36, Block XIV, Ngaire.

The application of G. Young for Section Ti, Block 11, Piopiotea West, was approved.

Application by J. Rumble for Section 24, Block 11, Piopiotea West, was approved.

Application of W. Collett for Section 30, Block I, Tangitu, was refused. A ballot was held for sections open to discharged soldiers, and as' a result the undermentioned were declared successful:—Geo. Pratt, Section 2, Block \I, Totoro; J. A. Thompson, Section 1, Block VI, Totoro; W. D. H. McMillan Section ( , Block V. Tangitu. Witli reference to applications for town and rural advances, stock, improvements, etc., under the Discharged Soldiers Act, the following business was transacted:—36 applications for rural lands were recommended, 22 refused and tions were recommended, 7 refused- 1 application for erection of buildin" 'and 5 applications for purchase of sections and erection of buildimw were recommended; 3 applications to discharge of mortgages and 14 applications for stock were recommended, while one application for additional stock was deferred--4 recommendations were made for refund of fees: 3 transfers were approved 1 deferred, and 1 left, in the hands of the chairman for action.
