NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. openlnir or the season bv the New Plymouth Club or, Saturday wlih a medal match did not take place, owing to the boisterous weather. There will be no club play next week-end, owing to the tournament, but mixed foursomes are set down for the following Saturday. A ballot for the election of new members will take place at the office of the secretary (Mr. J. Austin) to-morrow from 9 a.m. to s p.m. Members are reminded that subscriptions should be paid to the treasurer (Mr F S Johns) on or before Wednesday, otherwise they will forfeit the rebate. TABANAKI TOURNAMENT. ENTHIES CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY. The annual Taranakl tournament will open at Waiwakaiho next Saturday, and will be continued on the following Monday and Tuesday. Entries close on Wednesday night, and up till then will be received by Messrs J. Paton, W. H. flobertslmv, or J. Austin. There are excellent prospects for a successful gathering, entries having been received from prominent golfers in Wellington, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Pending, Wanganui, Ha.vvera, Inglewnod, and New Plymouth. It Is hoped to have the course in good order by Easter. The chief trc.uble on tho links Is the worm nuisance, but the caretaker Is only awaiting favorable conditions to start a vigorous crusade against the pests. Players are requested to bear in mind tliat the caretakers have a great doal of work to get through before the tournament, and Hint' iv.nnot be done if the men aro being continually stopped by players. Probably each player only hinders the man cutting or rolling a green a few moments, but the time soon mounts up. Players, wherever possible, aro asked to skip the greens that are being cut or rolled rather than delay the work.
