By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyright; Received March 28, 11.30 p.m. London, March 25. ■ The Evening Standard states, in connection with Mr. Clement Edwards question in the House of Commons, that a foreign ship was detained at a northern port as suspicions were aroused when she entered the Thames and departed suddenly without discharging her cargo of lager beer from Germany Customs officers, acting on information received, made a thorough search and found the lower tiers of the barrels contained German machine guns, rifles, and ammunition. The captain, who was unable to give a satisfactory explanation, was detained and brought to London for further inquiries. Another foreign captain was detained under suspicion.
