Bailey, S.M., presided over to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Stratford, Joseph Jans (Whaxehura) was fined £5 and costs far failing to kec phis property clear of ragwort. For a similar offence, William Jones, of Makuri (Mr. B. S. Rutherford), was fined 20s and costs. Judgment was entered for the plaintiff by- default, with costs, in the following cases:—Paget and Gordon (Mr. E. H. Young) v. H. F. Petersen, £6 4s Gd; Rawlcs and Eawles (Mr. R. P.. Tyrcr) v. James Murray, £l6 19s 6d; G. E. Wilson (Mr. Truby King) v. T. McDonald, £G 17s 9dWilliam George Rasleigk was ordered to pay John Davis (Mr. A. Coleman) £44 i lfig 2d within two days, in default six. weeks' imprisonment. PLUNKET DAY APPEAL. The appeal in connection with Plunket Day to-morrow has met with a generous response, and a successful campaign is anticipated. The tea rooms, from which, home-made goods will , be disposed, will be in charge of Mrs. W. Crawsha'w and helpers, while the" care of the general and produce section will be undertaken by Mesdames Abraham and Riera. The Women's National Reserve control the flower stall. The grand concert to. be given in the Town Hal! to-morrow (Saturday) night by the Wanganui Garrison Band, pro'mises to be a thorough success. A very attractive programme of band music and vocal and instrumental solos lias been arranged, and as popular prices are to be charged ior admission, the attendance of muwcMovers should be lafge. NGAERE GARDENS The wonderful popularity which the NTgacre Gardens have obtained through the enterprise of Messrs Lester'' Bros., the proprietors, will be further heightened on Sunday, when the Wanganui Garrison Band will provide a musical treat. The band won prizes at numerous #»ntests and is worth going a long way to hear. Passenger motor lorries will leave' the .Stratford" and Kltham Post Offices at intervals during the day, commencing at 11 a.m. GENERAL. A land agent's license was granted to Hugh Linn (Mr. L. M. Moss) at today's sitting of the Court. When a tenement, case was called in the S.M: Court to-day, the solicitor representing the defendant said that the ease could be struck out. The Magistrate remarked that he was always very pleased when tenement cases were settled privately, as they were difficult cases to deal with just. now. "It is not the clear cut issue it used to be a few years ago,'' added the Magistrate. It's time to have, that long-promised portrait taken. No need to wait for a fine day.
