RIFLE SHOOTING.

TARANAKI GROUP MEETING [ RTERESTtNG COMPETITIONS The Tarnnalci Group rifle meeting, which had been postponed on two previous occasions tool; place on the Rewa Rewu range. New Plymoutli yesterday, in practically ideal conditions, Tlio visibility was good, ami there was no wind tc cnus-i any trouble to the riflemen throughout the day. The postponement of the meelim,' evidently militated acainst a large attendance, and the entries In the Rifle Club and Territorial matches were not so large as they should have • been. There were some keen contests, however, and a very good day's sport was enjoyed. The matches were well controlled, and the shooting was completed at an early hour. In the Rifle Club matches, Rifleman G. Taylor secured the highest aggregate, . leading his nearest opponent by six points. He won a medal and Airs. Paul's Shield. In the Territorial matches, Second-Lieut. Arnold was an easy winner, his aggregate points amounting to 98. He was awarded two medals and tho Territorial Officers' Shield. In the CaoYt classes there were large entries, especially for these over IC. and some excellent firing took place, thero being ties In several classes before the winner was found. Cadet K. Waters (N.P. B.H.S ) won the cup In this section with an aggregate score of 09, and in the under 16 section, Cadet It. Mcliao was the winner with a score of 87. At the conclusion of tho shooting, tho prizes were presented by Lieut.-Colonel Weston, who suitably congratulated the winners. The range officers wero: long ranges, Captain Dallinger and Captain Hartnell, its. Standish and Arnold; butts officer, Mr. E. Armltage; 25yds, 3(13, Sergt.-Majors Bell and Parkinson; 25yds, point 22, Lieutenant A. J. Clarke. Lieutenant Andrew, V.C., acted ns secretary, his assistants being Q.M.S. Quale and Mr. Reynolds. The catering was undertaken by tho Taranakl Rifle Association and was under '.he direction of Mr. F. ,T. HUI (secretary), and a committee of ladies consisting of Mesdn.mes Hill and L. A.
