PETROL FAMINE.
873 Od PER CASE PAID IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 24. The price of petrol in Auckland ha been increased this week from 30s t 87s Cd a case. The reason is that th only petrol available is' a shipment 0 8000 cases that was consigned to Napiei and the increased price was sanetione in order to cover the cost of tranship ment to Auckland, leakage allowanc and commission on handling. Referrin to the matter, a representative of th Board of Trade (Mr. Patrick), who : acting as secretary to the Aueklan Petrol Sub-Committee, stated that th petrol was some that was bought whe the exchange rate in America was e: tretnely low. It was a class of benzii that was always retailed at Is a_cas more than any other brand, and 37s (i was a legitimate price for it. When tl 1 consignment was exhausted, as it pr hably would be in a few days, the 0 . dina'ry price of 30s, which had been ; operation for five, weeks would be r • verted to Mr. Patrick added that tl outlook in regard to supplies of benzii was hopeful.
