STATE FORESTS.
lARGE AREAS RESERVED; By Telegraph.—Press Association. . Wellington, Last Night. t Proclamations issued in the Gazette ' to-night declare certain lands have bee) set aptrt as provisional State forests The areas mentioned are portions of ■ Crown lands in Auckland, Taranaki . Hawke's Bay, Nelson, Marlborough . Westland and Southland. The tota ; area is in the neighbourhood of a mil : lion and a half acres. These areas, which are under bus! at the present time, are to be held a forest reserves pending reports of th ' chief forestry officers and his assistant! F who will recommend the measures to b taken by the Forestry Department Some large blocks are included. On " Southland block is estimated at 01,001 r acres and Nelson areas include block of 108,000 acres, 66,000 acres, and 53,00 r acres. The blocks of reserves are of a f sizes, some of them being under 10 " acres.
