WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. Pat Jennings, whilst driving a party into New Plymouth on Wednesday in Lis motor car, came into collision with a motor cyclist when passing Smith's 'bus. The cyclist came at a great pace in the opposite direction, and, apparently, did not see Jennings following in the wake of the 'bus. The cyclist, after skidding about thirteen yards, crashed into Mi\ Jennings' car, bending the axle, breaking the wheel and mudguard, and ripping the tyre. The bike was considerably damaged, but the cyclist, bar a shaking, came oil' with only a cut thumb. The occupants of the car escaped injury also. Just as the mail train was leaving the Waitara station on Wednesday morning, the guard noticed a stray dog (a cocker spaniel) aboard, and, of course, promptly ejected him. At Waitara Road station it became necessary to take in casein from the fariory, an operation which takes about three minutes. Before the loading had ceased, the guard was surprised to find the same cocker spaniel at his heels. This goes to show, however, that the criticisms on the New Zealand trains has done some good in speeding up at least the local train, inasmuch as the . train arrived before the dog.
