THE STRATFORD BY-ELECTION

GETTING ON THE ROLL. (From Our Own Correspondent) Stratford, March 24. From all parts of the electorate new enrolments arc being received, the number to hand up to the present being almost three hundred. The majority of these luive come direct from the candidates' committees, but in many cases, good sized bundles have come direct through the post to the registrar. On present indications it. would seem that the estimate of 500 new names being added to the roll will not fall short of the mark, and the probability is that there will not be many eligible to vote whose mimes will not, appear gn the roll.' The Stratford electorate is an everchanging district, and there are a great many people who have removed from the district", hilt whose names still appear on the roll. These electors are entitled to vote at the by-election provided they liavc_not been more than six months absent from the electorate, and they may apply through any postmaster or registrar of electors for the issue of absent voters' permits. Permits eaiuhe issued up to the day of the election. - As the campaign progresses partisan feeling becomes lgore apparent, and in Stratford the supporters of the rival candidates are already taking sides, causing, in a few instances, a little bad feeling. Most (business men, however, find it expedient to adopt a neutral attitude, particularlv when dealing with men of opposite political views. CANDIDATES' MEETINGS. Mr Robert Masters will spealc at the Town Hall, >Stratford, to-morrow (Thursday) night, and at Tariki on Fnaay night. As it is anticipated that there will be a crowded attendance at the Stratford meeting, electors are advised tT get to the hall early.. Mr. -f. B. Hine will commence, his campaign at the Wliangamomona Hall on Thursday night, and will speak at Tahora on Friday at mid-day, Toko on Saturday nhrhf, and Stratford Town Hall on Monday night.
