Macpherson (Chief Secretary for Ireland) disposed of his remarks. The explanation, moreover, did the officer concerned great credit.—lmperial Service. A CONFLICT IN DUBLIN. TROOPS FIRE ON A CROWD. London, March 23. • A serious affair has occurred in Dublin. The crowd followed troops leaving a theatre in the city. A collision took place near the Portobello barracks where the troops fired, killing a man and woman and wounding several. A large force of troops occupied Portobello bridge, to prevent the crowd passing over. They fired several volleys after which consternation and panic- reigned.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Association.
