A BURGLARY, March 23> The burglar or burglars. who have been making their presence felt further south, apparently tried their luck at Stratford last night, a burglary baring occurred at the office of the Farmers' Co-operative Society, when a £5 note and some petty cash and stamps of the value of about £2 was stolen. Entry was evidently obtained through one of the' windows, as the doors were all found locked this morning. Several drawers showed signs of attempts having been ntade to force them open, but as they were not opened and the safe was- not interfered with, it is believed that the burglars were disturbed while at work. The police are making investigations into the matter. REPATRIATION COMMITTEE. The Stratford Repatriation Committee met last night, Mr. A. F. Grant presiding. Mr. Grant was re-elected chs'nuan for the ensuing twelve months, and Mr. H. \V. Bovis was appointed to represent the committee at 'Ujjiangamomona. Messrs. Marfell and Glasgow were appointed a sub-committee to examine applicants for farm property on behalf of tha Lands Department, and it was detidtd to request the Department to furnish instructions as in the case of town properties. Three applicants were recommended to the Land Board as satisfactory. Two loan? of £.io each for furniture, and one of £2OO for securing a business were approved. An application for a loan of £<3oo for purchase of stoek was left in the hands of the chairman with power to act. GENERAL. Mr. Robert Masters, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, has received notice that, in response to representations made by him, a grant has been made by the Department for the purchase of an additional area of land for the school grounds at Douglas. The Borough Council has appointed the Works Committee to report on the question of calling for applications for the position of borough engineer. It's time to have that long-promised portrait taken.
