MEETING OF NEW PARLIAMENT.

The Governor-General, in 'his speech, did not refer to Die political situation. He announced proposals to check profiteering, to secure fair rents, to deal with currency and banking reform and the housing question, alsp measures to secure industrial peace, the co-operation of employers and workers through joint conn-. cils, regulation of hours and wages, to foster the development of industries, a programme of railway construction, irrigation and expansion, also reform in the Native administration. A monster demonstration of women of all classes And colors, numbering several thousands, passed a resolution against the high cost of living, and then marched in procession to Parliament, where the Premier addressed them, stating that Bills dealing with profiteering, speculation in foodstuffs, corners and combines would be introduced immediately. He urged .the public to co-operate in making them successful.
