The Stratford Borough Council haa been informed by the Jfuolic Works .Department, that the plana for the proposed new bridge over the Pa tea Kiver iu Broadway are now in hand, but that 3ome delay had been caused through having lo procure further information renaming tne foundations. What will probably be the last meeting of the Stratford Domain Board prior to the control passing to the Borough Council, was held yesterday, Mr. G. N. Curtis presiding. It was resolved that In the event of no successors to the Board being appointed by March 31, the diairman and the existing personnel continue in office. An application from the Defence Department for the use of the metal pit in the domain .13 a 25 yards ritle range was granted, subject to the Department taking the necessary precautions for the safety of the public, and accepting any liability. It was resolved to write to the Commissioner oi Crown Lands, in reply to correspondence already published, pointing- out - -.hat the principal reason advanced by the Borough Council as to why they ihould bo given control of the domains hs tlwt ;liev ivoui<f~be in "a position .o Bp l -' 11 " money on maintenance. The Board had, of course, not spent an amount of £">00 per year because they were not in possession of.that revenue, but they claimed that they had spent their modest income an the most economical manner, and. further, that during their term of office the domains had been kept clear of noxious weeds. In the event of the domains being under Borough control, they would not, in the opinion of the Hoard, be kept clear of noxious weeds I unless a competent full-time caretaker I was appointed. 1 Hiss Gieeson, of .the staff of the Stratford School, who is leaving the school to get married, was the recipient of a presentation this morning. Mr. R. Masters, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, in presenting Miss Green with a silver ?ern howl, a gift from the teachers of the school and Miss Gleeson's own class, said t,he Board had always regarded her as one of its best j teachers. At a meeting of the committee of the Stratford Racing C'luh evening, n report was received from Messrs Sladden, Palmc-r and Horner, engineers, resardine the work and cost, of completing Mr. Hill's plan of improvements to the course.
