RECREATIVE FACILITIES.
To the Editor. Sir,—l have seen and also heard complaints made that there is a lack of recreative societies iu New Plymouth. I suppose there must be, ay there usually is in any community, a few among tlio residents who possess organising ability. I suggest that some of these should call meetings and discuss and start sociable societies to which all women and men who are interested in the subject should bo welcome, such as, to mention a few alphabetically: Debating, Esperanto French, Geography, History, Literature, Music, etc. When I lived in Chrlstchurch an Esperanto Society was formed there, and we had most enjoyable weekly evenings, some day excursions, and visits from eminent persons. Itacentiiv the commercial master in Hastings gave an address on the international language, Esperanto, with the result that a society was started. Cannot New Plymouth achieve something of the sort to give zest to the approaching winter? The word "Esperanto" means "a hoping," or "a person who hopes," so I will sign myself— ESPEKANTO.
